We aim to bring these two elements into harmony every day and we support the continuous development of environmentally-friendly transport concepts. As shareholders in Hupac SA, for example, we express our clear commitment to environmental protection. Ever since 1998, we have been making use of the possibilities offered by Alpine transit traffic by rail to Italy and have thus contributed to significant reductions in pollution levels.
As an internationally active concern we want to realise our economic, social and ecological responsibilities and actively support environmental principles in concrete terms in our company.

Principles of our environmental policy
- We undertake to comply with all relevant national environmental regulations and legislation.

We attach importance to saving power and energy and make continuous efforts to reduce consumption. For this purpose we orientate ourselves to the technical possibilities available to us and make use of these whenever maintenance work, renovation and renewal of our infrastructure is being carried out whilst, at the same time, taking economic considerations into account.

In the procurement of materials we take ecological aspects into account by reviewing their life-cycle characteristics (acquisition, service life, management and ultimate disposal).

When carrying out renovations and reinvesting in the infrastructure, we prefer to use the best environmental technology, providing this is financially viable.

We want to keep the generation of waste to an absolute minimum and use an increasing proportion of recyclable products. Disposal of waste is carried out on the basis of separation into categories.
- We encourage and build on each individual member of staff’s sense of responsibility to make their own contribution to operational protection of the environment.
- The environmental aspects relevant for the activities and locations of our company are regularly examined and analysed as to their environmental effects.
- The public sector receives all the information it requires to enable it to appreciate the environmental effects of our company's activities. We maintain an open dialogue with our customers and with all interested parties.
